San Lorenzo Maggiore Complex

Journey through history above and below ground

Visiting the Complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore is like taking a journey back in time from the 5th century BC until the end of the eighteenth century AD The Complex is in fact a stratified historical testimony, perfectly preserved, of how Naples has evolved over time.

CHAPTER HALL

Through a portal of the fourteenth century, one enters a suggestive environment with richly frescoed vaults where the friars once gathered.

SISTO V HALL

A former refectory of the friars with vaults entirely frescoed by Luigi Rodriguez and dating back to the early 17th century.

BASILICA

The Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, one of the oldest in Naples, has an extraordinary Gothic architecture rich in charm in the heart of the city.

MUSEUM

On the four floors are all the finds found in the excavations of the ancient Neapolis, Medieval finds and spectacular shepherds of the crib of the ‘700
