Visiting the Complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore is like taking a journey back in time from the 5th century BC until the end of the eighteenth century AD The Complex is in fact a stratified historical testimony, perfectly preserved, of how Naples has evolved over time.
LA NEAPOLIS SOTTERRATA
An extraordinary journey back in time in the ancient Neapolis where you can walk along a road of the time with its shops and appreciate the Criptoportico and Macellum.
CHAPTER HALL
Through a portal of the fourteenth century, one enters a suggestive environment with richly frescoed vaults where the friars once gathered.
SISTO V HALL
A former refectory of the friars with vaults entirely frescoed by Luigi Rodriguez and dating back to the early 17th century.
BASILICA
The Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, one of the oldest in Naples, has an extraordinary Gothic architecture rich in charm in the heart of the city.

The archaeological excavations of “La Neapolis Sotterrata” are located within the Monumental Complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore, in the heart of the historic center of Naples in Via dei Tribunali, 316 adjacent to Piazza San Gaetano and San Gregorio Armeno.
What can I visit inside the San Lorenzo Maggiore Complex?
At the Monumental Complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore, one of the oldest in Naples, it is possible to visit the archaeological excavations of “La Neapolis Sotterrata” with the remains of the ancient city of Naples, a museum on four levels with the finds found in the excavations, paintings , ancient sacred vestments and shepherds of the Neapolitan crib of the 700; the magnificent cloister with the well built by Cosimo Fanzago in the center; the Sisto V room and much more.
